Two weeks ago, we welcomed a volunteer group from

Two weeks ago, we welcomed a volunteer group from the Asheville VA Hospital's Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC). Support staff Cara and Sam brought seven Veterans to lend their hands to several important projects around the property. As a team, they helped with mulching pathways, clearing storm debris from the woods, and adding fresh touches to the bird murals on the Apple House.

To cap off their hard work, the group gathered for a brief educational program with two of our ambassador birds: Junior, our broad-winged hawk, and Rosetta, our red phase Eastern screech owl. Volunteers Jim and Delilah shared the stories of these birds and the work Wild for Life does to care for and protect raptors in need.

Then, as a meaningful close to their visit, the Veterans were able to witness the release of a rehabilitated red-tailed hawk, who was finally ready to return to the wild after time in our care. We’re sharing some photos from that day and a video of the hawk’s flight back to freedom.

To all who joined us from the Asheville VA: thank you for your time, energy, and generosity. Your contributions make a lasting difference and help us continue helping wildlife. Thank you for your service!

Who doesn't like to snuggle when you're feeling ill?

Blankets or towels don't have to be new! As long as they are in decent condition and there aren't any loose threads or big loops in the fabric where toes can get caught and potentially damaged (called stringfoot), we will probably accept the donation. They *will* be pooped on after all! 😅

After the winter, keep us in mind during your spring cleaning, too! If you think something *might* be useful in an animal nursery, give us a call and tell us what you have! If we can make use of any of your charity shop haul, we will set up an appointment for you to drop off the items at the rescue. DO THE MOST GOOD!
