Yesterday, Wild for Life responded to a desperate $Yesterday, Wild for Life responded to a desperate call for help in Swannanoa, NC, where an eagle was found clinging to life amidst the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene. The eagle was spotted in a waterlogged KOA campground where it had been declining for over 10 days. Thanks to the concern of the disaster cleanup crew and the swift action of Wildlife Resource Commission Officer Erin Woriax, our team members Mary Beth, Susie, and Delilah were able to come to its aid. A HUGE THANK YOU to Rick, Andy, Officer Woriax, and the Swannanoa Fire Department for your incredible support and care. We couldn’t have done it without you! The eagle was perched at the edge of a log in the middle of the field of debris. It was too weak to even struggle – perhaps it sensed we were there to help. After a safe capture, the eagle was rushed to Veterinary Emergency Group for immediate care. X-rays showed no fractures or major issues but it was emaciated, hypothermic, and showing signs of possible toxicity. It is now receiving warm fluids, supportive care, and assisted feeding. This is just one example of the critical work we do at Wild for Life and we can't do it without your support.
